Jammu, Feb 24: Justice Permod Kohli, who had taken over as Chairman of the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) nearly two years back, has tendered his resignation to the Central Government.
Official sources said, “Justice Kohli has submitted resignation while citing personal reasons and expressed his inability to continue on the prestigious post”, adding, “he is likely to relieved by the Central Government next month”.
It is pertinent to mention here that Justice Kohli had taken over as Chairman of CAT on April 8, 2016 after the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved his appointment.
“Though Mr Kohli’s appointment was for a period of five years, he has tendered his resignation on verge of completion of his second year in office”, sources said.
Sources said, “Mr Kohli, who is known for his proximity to the BJP State leadership was also lobbying with some RSS leaders for his appointment to the gubernatorial post”.
It is pertinent to mention here that he had earlier served the Chief Justice of the Sikkim High Court. As a Judge, he was posted in the High Courts of Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand and Punjab and Haryana. He was elevated as the Sikkim High Court’s Chief Justice in 2011.
The CAT has been established for adjudication of disputes with respect to recruitment and conditions of service of persons appointed to public services and posts under the control of the Union Government.
