SRINAGAR : Despite tense situation on the Line of Control (LoC) due to migration of hundreds of villagers following ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops in Uri sector, the weekly Karvan-e-Aman bus, operating between Srinagar and Muzaffarabad, capital of Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK) left here on Monday morning to cross over to other side of the border.
The peace bus left here around 0800 hrs from Bemina area of the city for Kaman post, the last Indian military post on this side of the LoC in Uri sector, official sources said.
They said three Kashmiris, crossing over to other side to meet their relatives, separated due to partition in 1947, and one PoK returnee boarded the bus here.
However, the number of passengers travelling to other side will be known only in the afternoon when more people will board it at Trade Facilitation Centre (TFC) at Uri.
Similarly, they said, passengers travelling from PoK will also be known in the evening when peace bus arrive at Kaman post. Hundreds of residents of about half-a-dozen villages in the forward area have migrated to safer places following unprovoked shelling and firing by Pak troops in Uri sector recently.
Three people, including a woman, were injured besides several houses and a mosque were damaged in the shelling from across the border. The bus, introduced on April 7,2005 despite opposition by militants, have helped thousands of families divided in 1947 to meet each other.
However, only state subjects from both sides are eligible to travel in the bus provided their names are cleared by the intelligence agencies from India and Pakistan. (AGENCIES)
