Anbu calls for strict vigil

SRINAGAR, Feb 27: The Northern Army Commander Lt General D Anbu today asked the troops deployed along the Line of Control (LoC) for strict vigil to foil infiltration attempts of the militants.  He also reviewed  the security situation in Kashmir.
The Northern chief stressed for strict vigil along the LoC as the militants may try to infiltrate into Kashmir ahead of summer due to less snowfall this year. This year there has been less snowfall and Army apprehends militants may try to infiltrate into Kashmir ahead of summer.
The Northern chief visited the formations and Units in North Kashmir’s Baramulla and Kupwara districts for a review of the prevailing security situation. In both the sectors, there are inputs of large numbers of militants at launch pads across the LoC in PoK ready for infiltration.
Lt General Anbu was accompanied by the Chinar Corps Commander Lt Gen AK Bhatt who briefed the Army Commander about the measures taken to tackle the infiltration and shelling from across the LoC. He gave detailed briefing to the Army Commander about the measures taken by the Army along the LoC to further strengthen the anti-infiltration grid.
Lt Gen D Anbu reviewed the prevailing security situation amidst heightened tensions along the Line of Control. He was also briefed about the current situation in the hinterland where militants are trying to carry out Fidayeen attack on security forces installations. He was briefed about coordination between various security agencies to tackle any challenge thrown by the militants and their sympathizers.
A Srinagar based Defence spokesman said that the Army Commander visited forward areas in Kupwara and Baramulla districts and was briefed by the Commanders on ground as regards the operational preparedness.
“The Army Commander was appreciative of the measures and Standard Operating Procedures instituted by the units and formations to meet the challenges of infiltration bids and ceasefire violations”, he said.
“Commending the troops for their dedication to duty and high standards of professionalism, the General asked them to continue strict vigil to thwart any nefarious designs of inimical elements and also to provide all necessary relief and assistance to the locals affected by the recent cease fire violations”, the spokesman said.
He also lauded the excellent synergy amongst all the security forces, be it the Line of Control or the hinterland to meet any emerging security challenges and maintain a safe, secure and peaceful environment for the people.
