Rohingyas’ threat to Jammu

Omkar Dattatray
Atithi-Devo-Bhava is the basic principle of Indian culture but when it is a question of national security, one should think twice before blindly welcoming the guests. Rohingya refugees are threat to national as well as regional security. The Rohingya’s are denied citizenship rights in Buddhist majority Myanmar. They are regarded as illegal immigrants despite claiming roots that dates back to centuries. About 40,000 Rohingya’s muslims live in India after fleeing Myanmar over the past decade. India rightly wants to deport these immigrants. Everything is politicized so is the case with Rohingya issue as well. While the Central Government wants to deport them, the J&K Government has no policy with regard to the deportation of these immigrants. The apex court of the land is hearing a petition against Narendra Modi government’s decision to deport Rohingya Muslims. Some six to ten thousands Rohingyas live in Jammu where their presence has become a talk of the day. Many Rohingyas have been settled in the hilly and forest areas across Jammu Tawi river. They reside in over a dozen localities in an around Jammu. Some Rohingya’s are residing in Bathindi, Narwal, Nagrota, Belicharna etc. It seems that their agenda is to encroach whole Jammu in small pockets. Rohingyas are brought down here to disturb the peaceful atmosphere of Jammu. They are receiving support from terrorist organizations and the separatists. Terrorists have spoiled Kashmir and now they are hell bent to disturb peaceful Jammu also. The Rohinghya’s have found safe haven in the Jammu and Kashmir and they pose a threat to security of the people in this sensitive border state. Rohingya settlement is a threat to Jammu’s demography also if serious efforts are not made to identify and deport them. Intellectual and prominent citizens of Jammu want the deportation of these refugees as they opined that their presence is a threat to Jammu’s peace and demography. Lt. Gen P.S Mehta – a Kashmiri has expressed serious concern over the illegal immigration and settlement of Rohinghya refugees from Myanmar in Jammu region. According to him, Rohinghya muslims pose a security threat and there is need to develop a comprehensive response to deal with the issue. One wonders as to how this illegal immigration took place and there is need to identify those responsible for their transportation and settlement in a sensitive state after crossing almost 15 states. Not only the Separatists but even some mainstream Kashmiri politicians favour their settlement in the state. What a double speak! On the one hand Kashmiri politicians favour strengthening of article 370 and on the other hand they support immigration of foreign refugees. One professor K.L Bhatia expressed apprehension about the emerging pattern of bringing about a demographic change in Jammu region. Ashwani Kumar Changroo said that an overwhelming constituency in the country favors the abrogation of article 370 and article 35A of the Indian constitution.
These Rohinghya’s are settled in Jammu, Hyderabad, Haryana, UP, Delhi-NCR, Rajasthan. Central Government is in favor of deporting them. The separatists leaders of Kashmir called a protest march against so called alleged persecution of Rohingya Muslims. Head of Al-Queada’s offshoot Ansar Gazawat-ul Hind in Kashmir Zakir Musa expressed solidarity with Rohinghyas  living in Jammu. The presence of Rohingyas is a security threat not only in J&K but to the whole country. There are reports that Rohingya terror group called Aqua Mul Mujahiden (AMM) was in touch with terrorist outfits active in J&K. It is alleged that Rohingya terrorist were being sent to Kashmir along with Pakistani mercenaries. The million dollar question is as to who allowed Rohingya Muslims to settle in Jammu. When article 370 of the Indian constitution does not allow even Indian citizens from other states to settle in J&K, how can these refugees settle? It is in fact double speak and double standard. Is not article 370 applicable to Rohingyas? We should not allow them to settle in Jammu as they are a threat to security, law and order. Even Muslim countries of Pakistan and Bangladesh did not allow Rohingya Muslims to enter and settle there. Then is India a Dharmshalla for all to come and settle and pose a threat to national security and demography? The settlement of Rohinghyas would require amendment to existing state laws. According to police reports the crime rate has gone higher in Jammu these days thanks to settlement to Rohinghyas.
Some Rohinghyas are directly or indirectly involved in crimes. Even there are reports that Rohinghyas are involved in drug trafficking and thefts. The  Rohinghyas are also involved in girl trafficking and they sell girls for forty thousand to fifty thousands to Kashmiri clients. Not only this, terrorist organization have made attempts to radicalize sections of the Rohinghya youth. If it happens, it is a big threat to Jammu and the nation. Some Rohingyas have got ration cards, voter cards, Aadhar cards as well as PRCs illegally. It is also alleged that some politicians as well as some bureaucrats are helping Rohinghyas to get them settle down in Jammu and help them in getting vital documents. Some Rohinghyas and Bangladeshi Muslims are using forged documents to buy land and to get their children admitted in Government schools. These refugees are also helped by some NGOs by providing them basic amenities. In fact, this is a big conspiracy to settle these refugees permanently in Jammu. The central and the State Government should work in unison to detect and deport these illegal immigrants and the religion should not be a handicap in their deportation or otherwise we are sitting on a volcano which will burst at any time.
