JAMMU, Mar 5: Three day spiritual retreat of Yogoda Satsanga Society (YSS) organized by Yogoda Satsanga Dhayana Kendra (YSDK), concluded here, today. The spiritual retreat was conducted by Swami Smaranananda Giriji, general secretary of Yogoda Satsanga Society of India along with Brahmchari Achyutananda and Brahmchari Chaityananda.
YSS was founded in 1917 by Sri Sri Paramahansa Yogananda, author of the spiritual classic, “Autobiography of a Yogi”, which is available in 50 languages, including 14 Indian languages. Swamiji informed that YSS is a spiritual and charitable organization, open to people of all races, religions, cultures and creeds, making available the teachings of Paramahansaji to all sincere seekers. One of the major aims of YSS is to reveal the complete harmony, basic oneness, and common foundations of all true religions.
Other ideals include the liberation of man from his threefold suffering – physical disease, mental inharmonies and spiritual ignorance – through scientific yoga techniques such as the Energization Exercises created by Paramahansaji, and concentration and meditation techniques, leading to direct personal experience of God; and to serve mankind as one’s larger self.
The highest of these techniques is Kriya Yoga, through which consciousness is drawn to higher levels of awareness, bringing about a gradual inner awakening.
During the retreat, different sessions about teachings of Kriya Yoga comprising Energi-zation Exercises, Hong Sau and Aum meditation techniques; spiritual chanting and Kriya Pranayama were conducted.
Swami Smaranananda Giriji also spoke on essence of Gita in understanding one’s internal and external conflicts.
A public talk on “Meditation-Antidote for Stress, Anxiety and Fear” was also delivered by Swami Smarana-nanda Giriji, in the auditorium of Government Polytechnic College, Jammu.
It is not necessary for one to attend classes or have instructors; the sincere seeker can learn and practice these techniques at home, at one’s own time, through the Yogoda Satsanga lessons, compiled under the guidance of Paramahansa Yoganandaji.
Apart from four Ashrams, at Ranchi, Kolkata, Dwarahat (near Ranikhet, Uttarakhand) and Noida, YSS has meditation centers in over 200 cities and towns all over India; YSS runs schools, colleges, hospitals, dispensaries, medical camps, and offers scholarships and emergency relief.
