Power employees oppose privatization, out-sourcing

JAMMU, Mar 6: Non-Gazetted employees of Power Development Department  (PDD) organized State level one day convention  and projected their burning issues here today.
Senior Trade Union leaders  Freed Ahmed Mir, Ram Kumar and Mohd Maqbool presided over. In his inaugural address, Mohd Maqbool,  national secretary All India State Govt Employees Federation  and general secretary of  Jammu and Kashmir Non-Gazetted Electrical Employees Association, strongly projected the burning issues of the employees of the Power  Department and stressed upon the need to resolve the same. He said the Association has been projecting the issues of the employees time and again but the Government has failed to give due attention towards the same.
He said the power sector is in serious crisis today due to ongoing privatization and outsourcing policies of  the Government.  The Power workers have been strongly opposing this move of the Government since long. This exercise is hampering  not only the over all development but putting the unbearable burden on the common masses and the working people of this sector.
Maqbool said the process un-bundling  and out-sourcing in the name of reforms in the power sector initiated after the Electricity Act 2003,  and J&K Electricity Act 2010 has failed in all most every State. He alleged that State Govt is following anti-worker policies and this move will prove counter productive.
Secretary JKNGEEA, Gurmeet Singh while projecting the issues moved a resolution which was unanimously adopted and passed by the house. They strongly opposed the Government move of privatization and outsourcing  of the Power sector  and resolved to fight for the common cause.
Over a dozen trade unionists addressed the gathering. Some of them included –  Ram Kumar, Fareed Ahmed, Girdhari Lal Chanda, Daulat Ram, D K Tandon, Jasbir Singh and Gulam Mohd.
