MENDHAR, Dec 4: An Army Battalion under the aegis of BG Brigade organized an Army Mela at OP Hill Stadium, here today.
This mega event was held to honor the ex-servicemen of the region and for the local populace to interact and get to know more about the Army. Large number of Army Officers and civil dignitaries were present on the occasion.
The event was inaugurated by Commander, BG Brigade. Speaking on the occasion, he appreciated the role of ex-servicemen of the region and locals who have always supported the Army in nation building initiatives. He exhorted the youth of the region to join the defence services.
A number of stalls were established by various agencies of Army and civil administration with an aim to spread awareness among the local population about recruitment procedures, education facilities and information about various welfare and vocational schemes of the Army and civil administration. Major R Thakur (Retd) head District Soldier Board Rajouri addressed the ex-servicemen and briefed them on their entitlements.
The Army also organized a medical camp and disbursed free medicines to the needy people. To add colour to the event, a dog show, horse show and a cultural show was organized by the Army and children of the local schools.
