JAMMU, March 15: Pankaj Sharma once again impressed with his solo performance in play ‘Yeh Meri Wife Hai’, which was performed as the penultimate presentation of ongoing theatre fest being organized by Sangam Theatre Group, Reasi, at Abhinav Theatre here today.
Written by Azra Choudhary and Pankaj Sharma, who also directed and acted as the sole-actor in multiple roles, the play in Hindustani while highlighting the changing paradigms of husband-wife relationships from the initial years of loving affectionate and caring partners to the subsequent transformation as bitter selves with the expansion of family, financial problems etc. The play ends with the husband realizing that it was his inflated ego that stopped him to see the dedication of his wife towards him and her family.
Right from the starting sequence, the casual manner in which the actor directly narrates the play’s story to audience gave enough inkling about the style of the presentation. Such an approach which successfully broached the ‘fourth wall ‘that separates the actor from the audience, certainly touched the chord of the spectators.
There minimal set of three centrally placed blocks, with bare wooden door frames carrying placards with written labels like Bed Room, Kitchen, Drawing Room, provided freedom to spectators to visualize the props and setting of the household according to respective imaginations. It goes to the credit of the acting skills of Pankaj Sharma who as a solo actor with exhibited great deal of mental and physical focus that goes into one-man plays and the concomitant seamless transition from one character and kept the spectators.
Tomorrow, the 5-play theatre festival will conclude with play ‘Gagan Dhamama Bajyo’ by Natraj Natya Kunj.
