Around 10 in the morning about 200 people including family members, kin and neighbours of the deceased assembled on Jammu-Akhnoor road at Batehra along with the body of the deceased and staged a strong protest. They raised slogans against the PDD, stating that the man died due to negligence of its officials. The protesting people disrupted vehicular traffic for about five hours leading to long traffic snarls.
The protesting people were demanding compensation for the bereaved family and Government job for one of the members of the family of the deceased person namely Kuldeep Singh son of Wakil Singh, resident of Berha Morh (Gharota). He died yesterday after he came in contact with a broken supporting wire of a pole of 11000 Kv electric line while he was walking towards Akhnoor.
On getting information of protest, a police team from police Station Kanachak led by Inspector Neeraj Choudhary and SDPO Domana, Sandeep Gupta reached the spot and tried to pacify the protesters but all in vain.
Thereafter, officers of civil administration including SDM Jammu North, Alyas Khan and concerned Tehsildar also reached the spot. On their assurance, that as per Government rules their demands of compensation and Government job will be looked into, the protesters dispersed and traffic was restored on the busy road.
