Mobile phones, purse snatching gang busted, 3 arrested

JAMMU, Mar 17: Gandhi Nagar police busted mobile phones and purses snatching gang with the arrest of three persons.
As per police sources, on March 14 this year, a complaint was lodged by Eshita Mahajan, daughter of Vinod Kumar Mahajan of Nanak Nagar stating that she along with her friend were going home, when three unknown boys riding on a motorcycle stanched her friend’s purse containing 2 mobiles phones, ATM cards, etc at Extension Gandhi Nagar and fled away from the spot.
Acting over the complaint, a case under FIR Number 59/18 under Section 382 RPC was registered at Police Station Gandhi Nagar and investigation started.
To work out the snatching case, a team was constituted by Superintendent of Police (SP) South Sandeep Choudhary under the supervision of SDPO South Mohammad Rafiq Manhas. The team comprised of SHO Gandhi Nagar Inspector Sunil Singh Jasrotia and SI Kali Charan.
The team rounded up several suspects and during questioning, three suspects broke down and confessed that they had snatched the purse.
Police arrested all the three persons, who have been identified as Shubam Kumar, son of Ashok Kumar of Palli Morh Bari Brahmana, Rashpal, son of Girdhari Lal of Haggai, Jammu and Akash Thapa, son of Rattan Lal Thapa of Ismailpur Kothian, Tehsil Bishnah.
The accused also confessed their involvement in purse and mobile snatching cases in the areas of Bari Brahmana, Gangyal, Gandhi Nagar, etc.
On their disclosure, police recovered 7 snatched mobile phones and two ladies purses. Cash worth Rs 50,000 was also recovered.
Further questioning of the accused is going on to ascertain their involvement in other snatching cases.
The gang has been busted under the overall supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu Vivek Gupta.
