I am a ‘lambi race ki ghodi’: Manjari Fadnis

NEW DELH: Her journey in Bollywood, since her debut in 2004 with the youthful romance ‘Rok Sako To Rok Lo’, may have been slow compared to her contemporaries but actress Manjari Fadnis says that she has grown immensely as an actor over the years to reach a stage where her work is being appreciated.
”Though the growth in my film career in Bollywood has been slow, I am satisfied with the progress in my career till now.. I am happy that even though I have no film background, the industry has accepted me and I have constantly been getting work.
There may have been other actresses who may have got more success today. But I would say that I am steady, I am there. I am getting good roles. I have a lot of respect in my fraternity as far as my performances are concerned. I think I am a ‘lambi race ki ghodi’.
I am getting there. There is a lot more to come from me” the actress, whose latest film ‘Baa baa black sheep’ hits cinema screens on Friday, said in an interview.
Though Manjari came into limelight with her role in the film ‘Jaane Tu ya Jaane naa’, that featured her in a parallel lead with Aamir’s nephew Imran Khan, she has been waiting for her big break in Bollywood since then, while playing the lead in films like ‘Kis kisko Pyaar Karoon’ , ‘Zokkomon’ and Nirdosh. Manjari, who is playing a key role in ‘Baa Baaa Black Sheep’, along with Manish Paul and Anupam Kher, however, says she is happy at the work that she is getting in Hindi films.
Asked how she saw her journey in Bollywood, she said,”I think I came into the film industry too early. I guess a lot has to do with you getting the ”right break at the right time” in life. Also, may be if a big success came to me at an early stage I may not have been ready for it.
Also, it is not easy for you as an actress if you do not come from the film background. On top of that, if your first film does not do well, things become even more difficult. However, I consider myself fortunate to be in a profession that I am passionate about.”
Talking about her latest film, she said, ”It is a film about ‘Ba baa’. He is normal Goa boy. He does nothing, His dad is a ‘kaju seller’.. Suddenly, on his 25th birthday, his father gifts him his family business, of undercover hitman’.
However, Ba baa is someone who has not even killed an ant.. So, it is a dark comedy surrounding that.” On her role, she said, ”I am playing Ba baa’s girlfriend, his childhood sweetheart named Angelina Morrus whom he wants to marry.
However, when he is gifted his family business, he is caught between choosing the business or his girlfriend. ” Among the wish list of the filmmakers she wants to work with are Rajkumar Hurani, Ashutish Gowarikar and Aditya Chopra.
”I really want to work with Rajkumar Hirani. I feel that he is a wonderful filmmaker. He makes really good film. They are entertaining with a beautiful message. I also want to work with Ashutish Gowarikar,” she says. Apart from ‘Ba baa black sheep ‘, Manjari has also done short films like ‘Khamkha’ and ‘Cot’.
”Khamkha won a filmfare award in January 2017 for Best film in the ‘People’s choice’ category. This year, ‘Cot’ was also nominated for filmfare. I have also just recorded a single with some friends of mine and are just waiting to shoot the video for that” she said. (AGENCIES)
