Gujjars stress for political reservation

JAMMU, Mar 25: J&K Gujjars today stressed for grant of political reservation to them.
The demand was raised by the speakers during a programme organized by Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation. They stated that tribal status has transformed their distinctiveness ethnicity into a vibrant identity of the State but a lot is still required for their upliftment.
The speakers pleaded that tribal communities should be fortified with more special rights and extra constitutional safeguards in the State and develop them on the prototype of STs of other Indian states.
A seven point resolution was unanimously adopted by the community members. The resolutions mooted were grant of political reservation to STs, inclusion of Gojri in the 8th Schedule of India, extension of Forest Right Act 2006 to J&K, SC/ST Atrocities Act, Education for nomadic Gujjar-Bakerwal children, adequate representation to Tribal officers in State administration and police and enhance reservation for STs in professional colleges.
