VDC member guns down brother

RAJOURI, Mar 27: Over some land dispute, a Village Defence Committee (VDC)  member gunned down his real brother during clash at a village in Kotranka area of district Rajouri last night.
Official sources said that incident took place at village Khah No.1, falling  in Kotranka area at around 10.30 pm. Over some land dispute, there was a quarrel between the VDC member Balwan Singh (28) and his younger brother, Surjit Singh (26). Both of them after heated arguments, came to blows. The other members of the family including women tried to control the situation but both had turned violent.
Then in a fit of anger, the VDC member took out his  .12 bore licensed gun and fired on his brother Surjit Singh, son of Anant Ram. He was critically injured and fell down on the ground. The family members and neighbours shifted him to Rajouri hospital where he was declared as dead. Later, his body was shifted to morgue  for postmortem.
After firing on his brother, Balwan Singh escaped from his home. On the way, he fell down and his leg got fractured. He was also removed to District Hospital during last mid night.
The police registered a murder case against him and took him into custody. The dead body of Surjit Singh was handed over to the family today by police after postmortem and also performing legal formalities. The gun of VDC member has also been seized by police.
