JAMMU, Mar 28: A thought-provoking comedy ‘Namaste Jaishree Krishna’, featuring country’s stalwart theatre and film actors Ila Arun and KK Raina among others was staged at the Abhinav Theatre, here today.
Directed by K.K. Raina,  a topical play of immense relevance in present times of cultural flux wherein a clash of ‘old’ and ‘new’ is a commonplace fact in middle class Indian homes,  ‘Namaste Jaishree Krishna’ pleads for the need for dialogue between generations.
Adapted by Ila Arun, who also acted as one of the lead roles, the play is based on Tom Dudzick play- Greetings, which has been given an Indian context.
The plot revolves around a young boy Mohan, living in America comes to meet his parents in India along with his live-in girlfriend Porky, whom he has renamed Krishna, to seek his parents blessings and permission to marry her. Their arrival coincides with Janmashtami, Lord Krishna’s birthday. Problem ensues when Mohan’s plans misfire when his girlfriend forgets everything he has taught her and reveals herself to be an atheist. What follows is a expanding on the narrative, is a tug of war between old values and new liberation and how the dialogue happens.
The play’s script with its one-liners alluding to scams, shenanigans of politicians, new technologies et al, was savoured by the audience who enjoyed the fast-paced, presentation of each dialogue and punch-line. The play full of humour and laughter, festivity, sadness and nostalgia, was really a treat for everyone.
Tomorrow on eight day of the ongoing Jammu Chapter of 8th Theatre Olympiad, organized by National School of Drama (NSD), New Delhi, in collaboration with J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, an English play ‘The Last One’ will be staged under direction of Gema Galiana by  American group Galiana and Nikochev’s Useless.
