LEH,(Ladakh) Mar 30: Deputy Commissioner, Leh, Avny Lavasa today disbursed financial assistance to the tune of Rs 43,87,000 lakh among the nominees and children of workers who are registered as active workers with Labour Department Leh.
The financial assistance include Rs 2,50,000 for Degree Courses of five children of registered labours at the rate of Rs 50,000 to each beneficiary, Rs 38,72,000 among the children of 552 workers who are pursuing education at lower level in different educational institutions and Rs 30,000 each for higher education Diploma Course among the children of two registered workers.
Besides, a cheque of Rs 2,05,000 lakh was also given to Padma Gyalson of Sattoo Changthang as assistance who is a dependent of late Tondup Yangzes who died as an active worker.
Speaking on the occasion, Lavasa urged upon the labour fraternity to compulsorily get themselves registered with the administration so that they would become eligible for availing financial assistance for various purposes such as education and higher education of their children, medical assistance, marriage assistance, maternity benefits and death assistance. She further said that more welfare schemes for the workers can be devised if the administration does have more data and registration of workers.
The Deputy Commissioner showed her satisfaction over the performance of Labour Department Leh and urged them for similar spirit in future too for over all interest of the poor workers.
Earlier, the Assistant Labour Commissioner, Leh Gh. Nabi Tak gave a brief summery about the role and responsibility of the Department and said that at present they have 2612 registered local workers that include 890 male and 1722 female workers. He also stressed the need of registering all those un-registered workers working in the district with the Labour Department Leh keeping in mind their multifarious financial benefits.
