Investiture ceremony for State Awards postponed

JAMMU, Apr 2: The Government has postponed the Investiture Ceremony for presentation of State Awards,  which was scheduled to be held at Jammu on  April 4.
A decision in this regard is learnt to have  been taken in view of prevailing situation in Kashmir valley  following  the  killings of  13 militants and four civilians besides martyrdom of four soldiers in fierce encounters and subsequent clashes yesterday.
“It is for all the concerned that the Investiture Ceremony for the State Awards for the year 2015, 2016 & 2017 and Chief Minister’s Gold Medal for Honesty, Integrity and Meritorious Public Services for the year 2014, 2015 and 2017 which was scheduled to be held on April 4, 2018 at General Zorawar Singh Auditorium, University of Jammu,  has been postponed,” says an official communiqué in this regard.
As per the  notification,  issued by the General Administration Department (GAD),  next date for the conduct of Investiture ceremony shall be notified separately.
Official sources told the Excelsior that Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, who was scheduled to be chief guest in the Investiture Ceremony, is likely to remain busy for the next two-three days in Kashmir where she reached directly from New Delhi  today.
In view of  her busy,  schedule, dinner for the Editors at the Chief Minister’s residence this evening, was also cancelled, sources added.
The Government decision of suddenly postponing  the Investiture ceremony has subjected some awardees to inconvenience as those putting up outside the State are on way to Jammu via train while a few from Leh have already arrived here by Sunday flight,  sources said.
GAD had almost finalized all arrangements for the Investiture ceremony, rehearsal programme of which was earlier going to be held tomorrow.
