JAMMU, Apr 3: Police unearthed burglars gang with the arrest of two persons and recovery of stolen items worth Rs 10 lakh.
This was stated by Superintendent of Police (SP) South Sandeep Choudhary while interacting with media persons at Gangyal Police Station this evening.
Divulging further details, SP said that on March 17 this year, a complaint was lodged by Karan Singh, son of Ganga Singh, a resident of Digiana Camp with Police Station Gangyal stating that some unknown persons entered into his house and decamped with gold items and a mobile phone, when he had visited his relatives house in Satwari.
He further stated that a woman namely Nirmala Devi, wife of Lokesh Kumar of Ambika Colony also lodged a complaint with Police Station Gangyal stating that some thieves entered into her house during the intervening night of March 17 and 18 this year and decamped with ornaments and some household items.
“Acting over the complaints, cases under FIR Number 24/18 and 25/18 under Sections 454, 457 and 380 RPC were registered at Police Station Gangyal and hunt was launched to nab the thieves”, Choudhary informed.
SP said that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by SDPO South Mohammad Rafiq Manhas and comprising of SHO Gangyal SI Nayat Ali and Incharge Greater Kailash Police Post SI Vicky Thapa was constituted, which visited place of occurrence and rounded up several suspects, adding that after putting in hectic efforts, the team arrested two burglars, who have been identified as Mohammad Showkat, son of Mohammad Mir and Zafar Ali, son of Hakim Din, both residents of district Poonch.
“On their disclosure, police recovered stolen items worth Rs 10 lakh, SP said, adding that stolen items recovered include 8 gold rings, 1 pair gold tops, 5 pairs gold jhumke, 1 pair gold ear rings, 4 gold necklaces, 1 mangal sutra, 1 gold chain, 3 gold bangles, 6 silver bangles, 2 silver necklaces, 4 silver chains, 2 pair silver payals, 1 silver ring, 4 LCDs, 1 digital camera, 1 lady wrist watch, 1 mobile phone, 1 transformer, 1 set of box, lady clothes, cosmetic items, etc”.
Further questioning of the accused is going on to ascertain their involvement in other theft cases.
Prominent citizens of Gangyal, who were present during the press conference, said that with the arrest of the thieves, Police Department especially IGP Jammu Dr SD Singh Jamwal, DIG JKS Range Rafeeq-ul-Hassan and SSP Jammu Vivek Gupta restored the confidence of the public towards the working of the Department.
