JAMMU, Apr 7: Agitated over the stance of State Government for expressing sympathies with the deceased stone pelters while treating the martyrs with disdain, scores of NPP activists led by party chairman Harsh Dev Singh held protest demonstration at Exhibition Ground, here today.
The agitating protestors while accusing the BJP of placating the secessionist forces for saving its alliance with PDP, torched its effigy and raised anti-Government slogans. They also shouted slogans against BJP Ministers from Jammu region.
While addressing the media, Harsh Dev expressed his anguish over the BJP’s stoic silence in the wake of CM Mehbooba Mufti’s visits to the families of the stone pelters, who were killed in the police firing recently. He said that the anti-nationals were on rampage following the killing of 15 militants in three separate encounters in South Kashmir on last Sunday.
“While Mehbooba condoled the slain subversives and expressed her sympathies with family members, she assured them that the policeman who fired at the berserk mob causing injuries to the stone pelters would be brought to book. Subsequently, an FIR with charges u/s 307 RPC was registered against the constable who was placed under suspension by the State Govt”, dismayed Harsh said.
He further added that the Govt had also ordered a magisterial inquiry against the killing of the stone pelter seeking its report within 20 days. Singh accused the BJP of bowing before the dictates of PDP which instead of taking punitive action against the anti- national elements preferred to take forward the suggestion made by its interlocutor to withdraw cases against 9700 stone pelters as amnesty in a bid to win hearts in the Valley. He divulged that BJP had been hand in glove with its ally in doling out compensation and jobs to the stone pelters besides mulling obnoxious rehabilitation policy for the surrendered militants in the Kashmir valley. The BJP must clear its stand over Mehbooba’s sympathies with the stone pelters, Harsh Dev said.
Reminding Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh about his pronouncements to provide Rs 1 crore ex-gratia to the NoKs of martyrs, Singh asked the State Govt to announce immediate ex-gratia compensation to the bereaved families of all the martyrs of J&K
