Heavy Pak firing again in KG

JAMMU, Dec 8: After a day’s lull, Pakistan Army tonight resorted to heavy firing again in most parts of Krishna Ghati sector in Poonch district with an apparent attempt to push militants into this side while an Army soldier was injured in a mine blast while patrolling the forward areas on the Line of Control (LoC) this morning.
Official sources said Pakistani troops started heavy firing on all forward Indian posts in Krishna Ghati sector on the LoC in Poonch at about 8 pm. Heavy fire arms were used by the Pakistan Army to target 7 to 8 Indian posts.
The firing continued intermittently till late tonight.
Indian side retaliated to silence the guns of Pakistani troops.
This was fourth time in last five days that Pakistan Army resorted to heavy firing on forward Indian posts in Krishna Ghati sector. Yesterday, there was no firing in Krishna Ghati sector while prior to that there had been firing from across the LoC for three consecutive nights.
The Indian side had already lodged a very strong protest with Pakistani troops on hotline over their unprovoked acts of firing and ceasefire violations. However, there had been no let up in the firing, sources said, adding that the Indian side was forced to retaliate to silence the guns of Pakistani troops.
Sources didn’t rule out Pakistan Army resorting to heavy firing to facilitate infiltration attempts by the militants into this side. There had been a number of groups across the LoC, which were trying to intrude into this side taking advantage of adverse weather conditions and Pakistan firing.
However, strict surveillance maintained by the troops on this side haven’t allowed the militants to succeed in their designs of infiltration, sources said.
Meanwhile, an Army jawan Rajiv Kumar of 3 Grenadiers, a resident of Rajasthan was injured when he stepped over a mine leading to a powerful blast while carrying out patrolling in forward Rustam Post in Krishna Ghati sector early this morning.
The Army jawan was evacuated from the spot and shifted to hospital from where he was referred to Military Hospital in Udhampur. His leg was extensively damaged in the blast, sources said.
A day before, another Army soldier was injured in a mine blast in Krishna Ghati sector.
Troops have been maintaining high alert on the LoC to ensure that the militants didn’t succeed in infiltration under the cover of Pakistan firing and bad weather conditions.
