KATHUA, Apr 10: Kathua Police has registered an FIR against a group of lawyers for protesting and trying to debar the Crime Branch officials from performing their duty of filing charge sheet yesterday against the eight persons in the alleged kidnapping and murder of a minor girl of Rassana village of Hiranagar tehsil.
SSP Kathua, Suleman Choudhary told Excelsior that the FIR was registered by Police today against a group of lawyers under Sections 353,147 and 341 in PS Kathua. He said the FIR was lodged against a group of lawyers who held protests and tried to prevent the Crime Branch officials from performing their official duty to present challan against eight persons reportedly involved in kidnapping and murder of a minor girl.
Meanwhile, Crime Branch today produced challan in a district court against the juvenile who is also allegedly involved in the kidnapping and murder of minor girl and was the first person arrested by the police in this connection.
It may be recalled that the lawyers at District Court complex held a day-long protest demonstration and did not allow the CB sleuths to present the challan of arrested persons in the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Kathua yesterday. However, after a long wait the Crime Branch presented challan in the court at late night hours of seven arrested persons in the case while the challan of the juvenile was presented in the court today.
Meanwhile, the Bar Association Kathua has strongly protested against the presentation of Challan by the Crime Branch in the Rassana case.
In a statement issued here, today the Kathua Bar president, Advocate Kirty Bhushan Mahajan said that the J&K Crime Branch has played foul and presented the challan stealthily before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Kathua at his residence during night hours.
He, while criticizing the State Government said it has failed to analyze the gravity of the circumstances and further failed to understand the sentiments of the people. The agitation of the Bar will continue and the members of the Bar have resolved that the accused persons of the said case may make their choice of the advocate to represent them in the court of law at Kathua in the trial and such advocate would contest the Rassana case aka Asifa murder case on behalf of the accused persons free of cost, he added.
He said there will also be complete bandh in Jammu province tomorrow in support of the demands put forth by J&K High Court Bar Association.
