Assured Govt’s support to make SRTC self-reliant
JAMMU: Minister of State for Transport, Sunil Kumar Sharma today flagged off 32 newly procured BS-IV buses of Jammu and Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation (JKSRTC) on different routes of Inter State Division here at General Bus stand Jammu.
Prominent among other who were present on the occasion were Vice Chairman, JKSRTC) Haji Parvez Ahmed, Managing Director, JKSRTC, Mir Afroz, General Manager (operations) SRTC, Dhirendra Sharma besides senior functionaries of the concerned departments.
Speaking on the occasion, the MoS said that the newly procured buses will go a long way to achieve the objectives of the JKSRTC that are to provide adequate, efficient, socio economic and coordinated transport services to the public travelling interstate. He said this service is aimed at improving inter-state connectivity by making available affordable and comfortable transport facility to the people.
Reiterating government’s commitment, Sharma said that the government is making resolute efforts in developing the state’s transport system into more advantageous and convenient benefiting not only the public but also making a positive contribution towards the growth of tourism, trade and industry in the state.
Sharma informed that the Government both at the centre and the state level has laid special focus on road sector and secured an ample funding for improvement of roads in the State in order to provide highly integrated transport system to every nook and corner of the state.
The Minister appreciated the management of JKSRTC for increase in revenue during the year 2017-18 as compared to last year. He assured that all sort of support shall be extended from the government for making Corporation self reliant.
He further maintained that the transport department has a clear vision of providing quality service to the population of all the geographical locations at an affordable cost.
Sharma said that all possible efforts are being made to rationalize the passenger fare of every mode of public transport so that the commuters can easily avail the benefits provided by the State Government.
