Vested interests creating conflict between LAHDC, Panchayats: Jora

LEH, Dec 12: Minister for Tourism and Culture, Nawang Rigzin Jora today conducted an extensive tour of Chushot Yokma, Chushot Shamma and Chushot Gongma villages.
He was accompanied by Executive Councilor CAPD Gh. Abass Abadi, Executive Councilor for Tourism, Gyurmet Dorjey, Deputy Commissioner Leh, Tsering Angchuk, SSP Leh, Vivek Gupta, Councilor Gh Syedin and a team of district and block level officers.
Addressing a large gathering at Chushot Gongma, Mr Jora said, “some miscreants with their vested interest are trying to create differences and conflict between the Council and the Panchayats, which he said, would not be tolerated in any case”, adding “rules and policies of LAHDC and Panchayat in context of Leh district already have a clear provisions to work together in a coordinated and harmonized way”.
He urged the elected members of LAHDC and Panchayats not to leave any possibility of conflict in order to give priority to development of the district. He asked the 14 line departments to extend fullest cooperation to the Panchayats in order to achieve the developmental aspiration of the people.
The common demand of Chushot block was training of Indus River with protection bund to save cultivable lands from soil erosion, up-gradation of Primary Health Centre Chushot to Community Health Centre and early completion of internal road of Chushot (Kuzy-Mangalchak road).
The Minister while giving patient hearing to the demands of people, said that as far as the training of Indus River is concerned a detailed project of around Rs 150 to Rs 200 crore has already been submitted to the Union Government and he will try his level best to get it sanctioned.
He said that PHC of Chushot would be upgraded whenever the Union Government sanctions CHCs for Ladakh. He gave on spot direction to XEn Tashi Chombel to speed up the ongoing construction work of Rs 8 crore internal road project of Chushot.
At Chushot Yokam, the Sarpanch Chushot II, Tsewang Norboo put forth charter of demands which includes opening of veterinary centre, protection bund on Stok Nallah, construction of link road from Sant Peter School to Zamchung and opening of CAPD store at Chulak Gongma.
At Chushot Gongma, the Sarpanch Mumtas Hussain put forth charter of demands including sanction of bridge over Indus River for Rampur Thiksay, construction of protection bund at Matho Tokpo, allotment of land on Igoo Phey Command area, link roads and MAC for Chushot Gongma IInd.
The Minister also visited villages like Shey, Thiksay, Rambirpur and Nang. The common demand of these villages was construction of protection bunds on the both sides of Indus River and giving block status to Thiksay constituency, construction of irrigation canal from Taklangsha to Shey Lagang.
Other demands of Shey Yoknos were re-macadamization of the internal road, completion of Sindhu to Shashi link road, construction of community hall, veterinary centre and ration store. At Thiksay, the people led by their Councilor Thiksay Tundup Spalzang demanded early improvement in water supply scheme, upgradation of Government High School, construction of community hall at Khangsar Mohallah, re-alignment of main road of Stakmo, construction of link road to Togar Mohallah and construction of community hall at Garatong Mohallah etc.
The Minister directed XEn Irrigation and Flood Control to make a feasibility survey of irrigation canal from Taklangsha to Shey Lagang. He also gave on spot directions to the concerned HoDs to take up people’s demands seriously and gave on spot solutions to many of people’s problems and demands.
He also directed the Engineers to speed up various ongoing projects in different villages and also announced funds out of CDF at various villages for developmental works.
