J&K Police to launch Clean Tawi -Clean Jammu from May 14

JAMMU, Apr 28: The Jammu and Kashmir Police Wives Welfare Association (PWWA)  will launch a cleanliness drive in Jammu titled Clean Tawi – Clean Jammu from May 14 to May 16. In this regard a meeting was convened today at GOs Mess, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu which was chaired by Director General of Police, Dr. S.P Vaid who is also Patron of the PWWA.
Director General of Police, Dr. S.P Vaid, while welcoming the participants expressed gratitude to them for becoming a part of the campaign. He stressed upon the participants to contribute in making the drive a big success. The DGP said that Police Department will provide all necessary support for this campaign, however, all the stakeholders i.e Government departments, NGOs, Chamber of Commerce, students, different educational institutions will have to extend whole hearted support to make this a big success. He said that over the years water bodies such as lakes, rivers, canals etc. which were so clean few years ago have been polluted because of excessive use of non-bio-degradables.
Speaking on the occasion Bharti Vaid, Chairperson PWWA highlighted the aims and objectives of the campaign. She said that the campaign has a twin purpose of creating awareness regarding the cleanliness as well as making the river Tawi portion clean which is most polluted due to Jammu city besides different chowks. She said that different activities like street plays, display of the sketches highlighting the urgency of keeping the river Tawi and Jammu clean will be organized.
Bharti Vaid said that the idea is to involve around 1500 students, NCC cadets, NSS voluntaries and volunteers of NGOs and social organisations, JMC, Directorate of Field Publicity, Media, J&K Academy of Art, Cultural and Languages for making the Tawi and chowks of the urban and rural Jammu clean and generating awareness among people.
