KATRA, Apr 28: In an effort to improve the industry-academia relationship, a one day brainstorming session was held in the School of Mechanical Engineering, SMVDU, with all stakeholders viz. students , delegates from industry and faculty members of the school. The industries and departments, which participated in the conclave, include TV Super Filters Ltd, DIC Jammu, MSME Jammu, Berger Paints Samba, Dabur India Ltd, Shuvam Industries, Bright Industries, Bharat Wire Mesh and Kashmir Jams Ltd.
The event was coordinated jointly by Dr Balbir Singh (Assoc Prof , SME), Er Sanjay Mohan Sharma (Asst Prof , SME) and B K Bhatia (TPO, SMVDU).
The students of school of mechanical engineering presented their work, which was carried out in the local industries.
Dr R K Misra (Head, SME) gave a detailed presentation about the school of mechanical engineering about the various facilities and expertize available with the school. The meeting discussed various strategies for student training/interships at the industries and industry oriented projects for the B Tech and M Tech students.
The industry members advised the students to undertake problems which are interdisciplinary in nature. The industry members expressed their satisfaction to know that SMVDU is planning a “Tinkering Lab” in the Central Workshop of SMVDU for the students to work and fabricate whatever they like.
Other dignitaries who spoke on the occasion, included Prof V Verma (Dean, FoE, SMVDU), Dr I K Pandita (Prof , SME) and Dr Saverker Sharma (Interim CEO, SMVDU-TBIC).
Other faculty members of the school, who spoke, included were Dr Y Anand, Er Varun Dutta, Dr Azhar Jameel, Er Kapil Chopra, Er Mir Irfan Ul Haq, Er Rajiv Kumar and Er Deepak Byotra.
