Jammu, Apr 29: As part of a wide range of initiatives to tackle the growing menace of Cardiovascular burden in the region, Dr. Sushil Sharma, HoD Cardiololgy and his team held a day long camp at village Khana Chak area of RS Pura.
Accompanied by team of young doctors and paramedics, Dr Sushil examined people of area for prevalence of cardiac diseases and other health ailments. More than 200 people were screened evaluated, diagnosed and free medicines were given as per the requirements.
While interacting with the people during the camp Dr Sushil observed that socioeconomic status is one of the strongest predictors of illness but it is often overlooked in health policies. He stressed the need to address economic inequalities so that health inequalities shall not multiply. “Reducing poverty, improving education and creating safe home, school and work environments are central to overcome the impact of socioeconomic deprivation. By doing this, socioeconomic status could be targeted and improved, leading to better health for many, said Dr. Sushil.
Others who were instrumental in this endeavour included Dr Dhaneshwar Kapoor and Dr Kewal Sharma. Paramedics and Volunteers, who were part of the team, included Vikas Kumar, Bhanu Pratap Singh, Akshay Kumar, Gourav Sharma, Rajinder Singh, Harvinder Singh ,Kamal Sharma , Rohit Kataria , Rajeev Vohra , Suresh Raina and Raj Kumar.
