Empowering women

Sir,
The Law Commission in 2001 and the National Commission for Women have previously recommended  overhauling of the Indian Penal Code to ensure strict penalties for crimes against women including sexual abuse and acid attacks. A bill was introduced in Parliament in 2012 in the aftermath of the brutal rape of a young girl in Delhi. Parliament finally look notice and passed the Criminal Law  Bill in March 2013 to provide stringent measures for crimes against women. To check the issue of sexual harassment at the workplace the Supreme Court laid down specific guidelines. In 2013 Parliament passed a law to protect women from sexual abuse at their place of employment. Now the present scenario in the country attracts our attention to empower women. Reservation in the elected bodies have to be provided and have to reserve a third of all seats for women in Lok Sabha and in the State Legislative Assemblies as well. In the local bodies their quota has to be kept and ensured. It needs political will to fulfil all the aspirations of our women. Divorce and breakdown of marriages among our women is a  matter of grave concern that needs to be addressed forcefully and judiciously henceforth. The growing break down of  marriages has resulted in huge wastage of money and energy.
The civil society needs to demonstrate their concern in the cause of womenfolk so that they too live with dignity and respect.
Yours etc…
