2 killed, 22 hurt in mishap

RAJOURI, May 7: Two persons were killed and 22 others injured, some of them seriously when an over loaded mini bus turned turtle on the road in Lam area of Nowshera sector in district Rajouri this evening.
The mishap took place when ill-fated vehicle No. JK-11/1411 was on way to village Rajpura Bhatta near the Line of Control in Nowshera Sub Division at around 5.45 pm today. The driver after some mechanical snag, lost control on the vehicle and it turned turtle. An injured passenger, however, said that it was raining and the road was slippery and vehicle went out of control.
Immediately after the accident, the people of the area rushed to the spot. ADC Nowshera, Sachin Dev Singh and police party from Nowshera along with two Ambulances also reached the spot. The injured were shifted to Sub District Hospital, Nowshera.
Two of them including a 5-year-old girl were killed on the spot. They were identified as Chatter Singh- vehicle driver (58), son of Fateh Singh and 5-year-old Sidhiya, daughter of Jasbir Singh, both residents of Rajpura Kamila village.
SSP Rajouri Yougal Manhas told the Excelsior that this vehicle having capacity of 16, was carrying 22 passengers. As per preliminary reports, the vehicle went out of control and over turned on the road, causing two deaths on the spot. He said that all the injured were shifted to Nowshera hospital while four seriously injured were later referred to GMC Hospital Jammu. The actual cause of accident is being investigated by police, he added.
Seriously injured shifted to GMC Hospital Jammu were identified as Happy (25), son of Vijay Kumar, from Chowki Handon; Sonali (20), daughter of Jadveer Singh; Agya Kour, wife of Jadveer Singh of Rajpura Kamila; Satnam Kour (57) from Rajpura Bhata and Jasveer Singh, son of Hari Lal from Rajpura.
Those undergoing treatment in Nowshera hospital were identified as – Bhupinder Singh, son of Devan Singh from Rajpura Kamila; Harjeet Kour, wife of Nirmal Singh from Rajpura Kamila; Hukum Singh, son of Mehtab Singh from Rajpura Bhata; Jaswant Singh, son of Pritam Singh from Rajpura Kamila; Gurvinder Pal Singh, son of Harbhajan Singh; Gurpreet, daughter of Joginder Singh from Rajpura; Sameer Ullah, son of Shafeeq Ullah from Nadian Darhal; Mohd Aslam, son of Sakhi Mohd of Nadian; Bhagat Singh, son of Jagat Singh from Kamila; Ajaib Singh, son of Mehar Singh from Qila Darhal; Preeti, daughter of Johar Singh, Ravinder Singh, son of Johar Singh from Bhatta; Nirbair Singh, son of Amar Singh , Shaheen Akhtar, wife of Mohd Shafeeq; Bagga Khan, son of Abdul Hamid and Nirmal Singh, son of Gian Singh all hailing from Rajpura Bhata area.
The district administration has extended assistance of Rs one lakh to next of kin of deceased while Rs 10,000 assistance for the last rites and Rs 10,000 each to the four seriously injured passengers.
Meanwhile, Minister for School Education, Haj and Auqaf and Tribal Affair Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali has expressed grief over the loss of lives in a road accident here at Rajpur Bhatta in Nowshera sub-division.
In his condolence message, the Minister conveyed his sympathies to the bereaved families and prayed for peace to the departed souls. He has wished speedy recovery to the persons injured in this accident.
