UDHAMPUR, May 8: Udhampur Police today recovered 20 kg of poppy straw from one Punjab based smuggler, who was apprehended at Jakhani, here today.
Based on a reliable information regarding smuggling of poppy straw, a police party of Police Station Udhampur, led by SHO Sanjeev Gupta, under the supervision of DySP Headquarters Kameshwar Puri, laid a naka at Jakhani on National Highway and intercepted a gas tanker bearing registration number PB10DE-9883. During thorough search of the vehicle, 20 kgs of poppy straw was recovered.
The accused interstate narcotic smuggler namely Chamkaur Singh, son of Bhajan Singh of Patti Jagga, Punjab, was arrested on the spot and poppy straw was seized. The vehicle used by the smuggler was also seized.
In this connection, a case FIR Number 196/2018, under Section 8/20 NDPS act has been registered at Police Station Udhampur and further investigation of the case is going on.
