JAMMU, May 8: The Government today decided to hold election for the post of Legislative Assembly Speaker on May 10.
Sources told the Excelsior that the Law Department today wrote to Governor N N Vohra for summoning an hour long session of the Assembly on May 10 in Srinagar to conduct election of the Speaker.
After Governor calls the session, the Assembly Secretary would invite nominations for the post of Speaker.
As Opposition is in no mood to contest the election in the absence of numbers, the PDP-BJP joint candidate Dr Nirmal Singh is likely to be elected unopposed as new Speaker.
Vacancy of the Speaker has arisen due to appointment of Kavinder Gupta as the Deputy Chief Minister.
