REASI, May 14: Peeved over the no supply of drinking water, people from Marhi Basti of Reasi staged a strong protest against the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department, here today.
A large number of people, including women, assembled on the main road and blocked the road while demanding regular water supply. They alleged, “From the past one year, there is no drinking water supply in our area and we are suffering to meet our basic requirements. On the other hand, the PHE Department has shown no concern over our plight.”
The protesting women lamented that the concerned department had taken the village for granted and alleged that the concerned officials of Reasi were least bothered about the supply of drinking water to the residential areas. They urged officials to look into the matter.
“We are unable to offer a single glass of water to any guest visiting our home while our children are ridiculed for their no fault as they sometimes have to go to school wearing dirty uniforms and without a bath,” a woman explained.
The protesters complained that the village has been deprived of water supply by the PHE and people have been forced to use dirty water for drinking.
Later, administrative officials rushed to the spot and pacified the protesters by assuring that their matter will be taken up with the senior officers of PHE.
