3 CRPF bunkers removed

SRINAGAR, Dec 15:
Three main roadside bunkers of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were removed in the summer capital, Srinagar, after more than two decades, following an improvement in the overall security situation, official sources said today.
The three CRPF bunkers were at Amira Kadal, near historic Lal Chowk, the nerve centre of the city, Batmaloo, once hub of militants and Baghiyas.
With this more than 40 roadside bunkers in Srinagar have been removed during the past two years.
People, mostly youths, were seen removing stones and other debris of these bunkers.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) CRPF, north Srinagar, P K Pandey said CRPF personnel who were manning these bunkers have relocated.
He said that eight sections of CRPF were relocated after the removal of the bunkers. ‘From Bagihas three Sections were removed. From Reck Chowk Batmaloo two and from Amira Kadal two sections were removed,’ he said.
Mr Pandey said that 22 roadside bunkers more will be removed in the near future.
As many as 52 CRPF battalions are providing security to VIPs, important installations and deployed as Road Opening Party (ROP)in the Kashmir valley.(UNI)
