MENDHAR, Dec 16: A middle-aged woman was murdered by some unknown assailants at village Chhunga Charoon, about 13 kms from here late last evening.
The deceased has been identified as Shenaz Akhtar, wife of late Mohd Rafiq, resident of Chhunga Charoon. The body with stab wounds was found lying near an Army camp of 27 RR at around 6 pm. A local shephered Mohd Bashir noticed the body lying in the forest area about 500 mt away from the village and informed her family members including step son Mohd Showkat and others. Upon this the family members and villagers rushed to the spot. They informed police at around 6.30 pm but kept waiting for Mendhar police till throughout the night at the spot.
The police party from Mendhar Police Station reached the spot only at around 12 noon today. The villagers and relatives did not disturb the spot and the body as per the instructions of the police. They kept waiting in the chilling weather conditions at the spot with dead body in jungle during the night. They expressed strong resentment over the attitude of police and sought action against erring officials.
The body of the deceased was shifted to hospital for postmortem and later handed over to the family. The victim had two large stab wounds at head and backside and reportedly killed due to excessive bleeding. It appeared that stabbing took place about 200 mt away and the body was then shifted to the second location. There is an Army camp about 300 mt away from the site of incident. The police registered a case and started investigation.
Her husband Late Mohd Rafiq was a porter in Army and died about 4 years back. From first marriage of Late Rafiq, there are two sons, Mohd Showkat and Mohd Ishfaq. Mohd Showkat is young and also working as porter with 39 RR in the same area. Shehnaz Akhtar was the second wife of late Rafiq. She also had two minor children. Ishfaq who was at home told that Shenaz left home last evening at around 5 pm telling that she was going to bring eggs for the children and did not return. They only came to know about the incident after shepherd Mohd Bashir came running and told that Shenahz had been done to death. No arrest has been reported in this connection so far.
