RAJOURI, May 26: District Administration Rajouri has initiated the process for construction of more than 5500 bunkers and 200 community halls as well as Border Bhawans -the proposal for which has already been approved by the State Government and Ministry of Home Affairs.
The projects are targeted to be completed during the current financial year.
In this regard, District Development Commissioner Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary chaired a meeting and reviewed the arrangements for initiating construction of family bunkers, community bunkers, community halls and border bhawans to facilitate safety of border residents during ceasefire violations.
The meeting was attended by SSP Yougal Manhas,ACD Akhter Hussain Qazi, ACR Abdul Qayoom Mir, ExEn PWD M A Raina, DPO Dr Abdul Khabir, DIO Mohammad Shafait and other officers.
A total of 5196 bunkers are being constructed in 7 blocks along the 120KM long stretch of Line of Control. These include Sunderbani, Qila Drahal, Nowshera, Doongi, Rajouri, Panjgrain and Manajakote. Meanwhile more than 260 community bunkers and 160 community halls will also be constructed in villages located in 0-3KM distance from Line of control for accommodation of people during ceasefire violation prompted migration / emergency evacuation. The border bhawans to accommodate more than 10,000 people will be constructed in safer areas of Sunderbani, Nowshera, Doongi, Rajouri and Manjakote.
The DDC informed that every family residing in 0-3 KM range from LoC will be provided an individual family bunker during Phase-I of the project while community bunkers and halls will be strictly constructed near Schools, Hospitals, Police Stations / Posts, Government Buildings, Panchayats Ghars, CFCs etc for safe accommodation of better utilisation during peace time.
Tehsildars have been directed to hand over land to executing agencies indicating area and Khasra number as well as entry in revenue records while tenders will be put in public domainwithin one week. The tendering process designed for construction of bunkers as block level projects as per MHA guidelines will start within one week and process will be completed within one month which will be followed by construction of bunkers, shelters and community halls.
Joint teams of Revenue, RDD, Police and PWD will conduct inspection, physical verification and monitoring with active cooperation from border guarding forces. All the assets will be geotagged and monitored online at district and state level. Public has been advised to extend active cooperation for completion of this prestigious project within stipulated time. The project will be executed and completed at an estimated cost of Rs 153.60 Cr. The project will also generate employment for thousands of people in the border belt.
