JAMMU, May 29: National Conference, (NC) senior State vice president, Surjeet Singh Slathia called upon parents to encourage children’ participation in extra-curricular activities, saying that these activities and academics complement each other and develop all rounde healthier students.
“Extra-curricular activities like music, art, dance, sports and athletics etc are imperative for overall development of students”, Slathia said after giving away prizes and trophies to the winners and runners up of Inter School Dance and Fancy Dress Competition, held at Abhinav Theatre here this afternoon.
Slathia said that students, who are involved in extra-curricular pursuits, especially at young age, tend to improve their academic grades as well due to increased confidence and motivation. Such activities also imbibe the spirit of camaraderie among youngsters, which places them in good stead to face the competitive world with much more confidence and vigour, he added.
Lauding the performers, Slathia exuded confidence that given wider exposure and better coaching they can bring laurels to their schools as also the State. He referred to young boys and girls making their mark in dancing and singing besides sports at the national level and said the day is not far when Jammu will produce more and more talented youth, who make mark at State, national and international events.
Slathia, who was the chief guest at the competition, gave away trophies and prizes to students, who achieved distinction in dance and fancy show.
While Ashit Gupta and Akshita were declared winners, Aditya and Tania stood first runners up and Kuljeet Mahajan and Mahi were declared second runners up.
The performers gave a scintillating performance, which enthralled the audience. Equally mesmerizing was the fancy show which reflected different mood of the present era besides distinct culture of Jammu and Kashmir.
Organized by Unique Dancing Institute Jammu, students of 40 schools participated in the event. Director of the Institute, Sunil Sharma spelled out the objective of the event and dwelt upon its activities.
National Conference State vice president, Rattan Lal Gupta, Chairperson Gorkha Sabha, Lila Jamwal and Puneet Chopra Proprietor Chopra Group of Industries were among the prominent persons present on the occasion.
