More than 1500 challaned for not tying seat belt

JAMMU, Dec 17:  Launching intensive drive against the violators, the Traffic Police today challaned more than 1500 persons who were driving without fastening seat belt in Jammu.
The violators, who were challaned and fined, included Police personnel, Armymen and Government drivers besides commoners.
According to DIG Traffic Jammu, Shakil Beig, 1200 persons were challaned in Jammu city while 341 in rural areas and 67 on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. A fine of around Rs 1,90,000 was realized from the violators, he added.
More than Rs 13,800 were realized as fine from Jammu city, Rs 33,000 from rural areas and more than Rs 13000 from the National Highway.
“We did not spare anyone and I personally monitored the drive during which we challaned the vehicles of State Motor Garages, police and Army also,” the DIG told the Excelsior adding that the drive would continue with a target to ensure complete compliance of the seat belt norm by first January of the new year.
