KATHUA, May 29: Protesting against the death of a pregnant woman due to negligence of doctors at District Hospital Kathua, the relatives and family members of the lady along with other villagers blocked the Jammu -Pathankot National Highway for about two hours this evening by keeping the dead body on the highway.
The protestors held the doctors at the hospital responsible for the death of the woman and demanded action against them.

As per reports, Naina Devi, 24, wife of Rajesh Kumar of Govindsar, Kathua was admitted in District Hospital Kathua by her family members today after she complained labour pain. The doctors advised operation and she was administered anesthesia by the Anesthesiologist. However, soon after the administration of injection the lady developed convulsions and her condition deteriorated. The doctors put her on ventilator but she could not revive. Later they referred her to SMGS Jammu but she breathed her last after reaching Bari Brahmana.
The family returned to Kathua with dead body and staged a demonstration on National Highway along with the body of the woman. They blocked the National Highway for two hours disrupting the movement of vehicular traffic which resulted into a long jam on National Highway.
The senior officers of police and civil administration including Dy SP, Shamsher Singh Samyal and SHO Kathua Anil Sharma besides the incharge Medical Superintendent, Dr Anil Gupta rushed the spot and tried to pacify the protestors. Later the D C Kathua, Rohit Khajuria ordered the Magisterial Inquiry into the matter.
This pacified the protestors who dispersed and traffic was restored on NH. The dead body was later taken to DH Kathua for postmortem.
When contacted the Medical Superintendent, DH Kathua Dr Suresh Sangral said that the lady was admitted for delivery and she was administered injection by the doctors as a normal course. But in the rarest of rare cases she started convulsions. However, doctors tried their best to revive her and she was revived. Later they decided to send her to SMGS Jammu but she died in the way.
He said the Hospital administration has also constituted committee for investigation.
