Census data dissemination workshop held at KU

SRINAGAR, Dec 17: To give an insight of the “Census 2011”, a one-day workshop was conducted by Directorate of Census Operations in collaboration with Department of Economics, University of Kashmir here today.
During the workshop many eminent economists of the State, including senior census experts and officials presented detailed findings and an overview of the Census 2011.
Dean Social Sciences Prof MA Wani said that planning and development of a nation depends upon the findings of Census and every policy of the Government is subservient to Census data. Census data highlights the persisting problems and helps us to ascertain the goals, said Prof MA Wani.
Former Dean Social Sciences Prof Dost Mohd, who was chief guest on the occasion emphasized on the use of Census data to give the proper direction to the development process.
On the occasion Joint Director Census Department CA Safroo said they have published Census data and people are eager to know about the findings of Census and very shortly, Census books will be available in the University library.
Earlier Head, Department of Economics KU Prof GM Bhat in his inaugural address said that for perspective planning, we must have inputs, which are provided by periodical census data.
After the inaugural session, presentations regarding different findings of Census 2011 were delivered by the Directorate of Census Operations during which information regarding various findings of Census 2011 were revealed, which included present population scenario of various districts within the J&K, sex ratio and house hold amenities.
