JAMMU, May 30: Deputy Commissioner, Reasi, G Prasanna Ramaswamy said today that the cases of diarrhoea reported in Reasi are normal for this time of the year but still the administration was looking into the possibility of getting water samples tested in Reasi and Jammu.
“Approximately, less than six to seven cases per day with no severe cases have been reported. Even though we are looking into the possibility of getting water samples tested in Reasi and Jammu, it has not been established that the cases can be attributed to poor water quality,” Ramaswamy said, in an official statement.
The Deputy Commissioner, Reasi said there have been 144 reported cases of diarrhoea infections in Reasi since May 1 and they have occurred in at least four blocks, which are geographically placed at a distance. Although there is no set definition of an epidemic, it is generally agreed that an outbreak should be considered an epidemic when the number of cases undergo a sudden increase over a relatively short span of time, usually less than two weeks, he added.
“The entire team of Government doctors in the district is of the similar opinion,” Ramaswamy said.
