Bandipora, May 30: The students of Ancillary Medical Training (AMT) institute in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district have said that the failure of authorities to provide adequate teaching faculty to the institution has plunged them into despair.
The students rued that dearth of teachers have affected their studies and their half of the academic calendar has been lost due to the deficiency.
Muhammad Imran, a student said the institute started admissions last year for different courses and at least 43 students were enrolled. However, the authorities have failed to depute teaching faculty, despite being the only professional institute in the District. “Non teaching staff from district hospital  has been deputed to cater to the needs of students,” he said adding: “Callous attitude of the authorities have failed the initiative.”
The students said despite the dearth of teaching staff, the institute provided admission to another batch of 40 students selected for session 2018-19, decrementing the future of the first batch. “What was the fun to start a new batch, if they were aware that they have already destroyed the future of earlier batch,” they questioned.
According to the students, the tussle between the concerned officers had affected the functioning of the school. “The school was functioning smoothly till the Block Medical Officer (BMO) violated Director Health Services Kashmir (DHSK) and Chief Medical Officer’s (CMO) orders by holding monthly salary of all tutors and trainees nominated by DHSK.
They alleged that the BMO, who holds the additional charge of Principal AMT School, visits the institute only once in a month and that too for his personal work. “He always pay deaf ear to our genuine demands and whenever we complain him about the dearth of teaching staff, he suggest us to visit the hospital for clinical practices,” they alleged.
The students claimed that they are regular to institute but are being taught by volunteers and one staff member of district hospital for few days in a week.
CMO Bandipora, Dr. Bilques while confirming the dearth of staff in the institute said that the Government has not yet created posts for the institute and internal adjustment has been made till the staff is appointed. “We have deputed some of the doctors from the district hospital to teach students at the institute. The posts for the institute is yet to be created by the Government and the higher ups have to take a call on this,” she said.
