JAMMU, May 31: “World No Tobacco Day” was observed, today.
On the eve of the World No Tobacco Day, the scientific and supporting staff of the Regional Horticultural Research Station of SKUAST-J, organized an awareness programme at Sartangal Farm.
On the occasion, Dr Mahital Jamwal, Head of the station, Dr Neeraj Kotwal, Dr Manoj Sharma, Dr Sanjeev Kumar, Dr DK Chauhan and Dr Rohit Sharma expressed their views. A discussion on “Tobacco Breaks Hearts: Choose health, not tobacco” was also held.
Awareness camp on ‘World No Tobacco Day” was organised at Emergency Hospital Vijaypur, which was inaugurated by Dr Lakhwinder Singh, BMO Ramgarh in presence of Dr Vishal Gupta, Physician Specialist, Dr Lakhwinder Singh, BMO Ramgarh, Nidhi Abrol, CHO, doctors and paramedical staff of the hospital.
Indian Dental Association Jammu Central in collaboration with Commandant 160 Battalion CRPF Chatha Surinder Mehra conducted a dental and awareness camp on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day. More than 100 soldiers were examined and counselled. The camp was attended by Dr Ritesh, Dr Prince, Dr Satvinder, Dr Surinder, Dr Shivangi, Dr Pawan and Dr Danyal.
To observe World No Tobacco Day, Bhartiya Lok Sangeet Kala Sansthan organized a week long campaign on drug abuse, which concluded today. On the concluding day, BLSKS staged musical play “Nashe Kola Bacho” in coordination with Sangam Tru Art Production and National College of Computer Education Janipur. The play was written, produced and directed by ML Dogra, renowned writer and musical play director.
Health Department Leh observed World No Tobacco Day with the theme “Cardiovascular Diseases (CVD)” at CMO Office. A large number of students from different educational institutions participated in the painting competition and later in the rally. Executive Councilor for Health Gyal P Wangyal was chief guest while as Councillor Upper Leh Lobzang Nyantak was guest of honor. Other who present on the occasion were Chief Education Office Leh Roqia Bano, Vice-president LBA Youth Wing Tsewang Dorjey, Incharge CMO Leh Dr Manzoor ul Haq, Dr Mohammad Iqbal DHO, Dr Lotus Gyaltson Physician Specialist, Dr Padma Angmo Psychiatrist, CEO, Leh Roqia Bano and Vice President LBA Youth Wing Tsewang Dorjey. In the end Dr Tashi Namgyal DIO, Leh gave vote of thanks. Prizes were also distributed among students who participated in the painting competition.
Government Higher Secondary School Chiralla celebrated World No Tobacco Day by organising a symposium. Acting Principal Shamim Ahmad was the chief guest on the occasion. In the symposium, Kritika Devi of Evergreen Public School Chiralla was adjudged first, while Veerta Devi from Royal Public School got second prize. Radhika Devi and Amant Ali of Evergreen Public School Chiralla and JKMH Public School Sewa, Chiralla respectively shared third position.
On the occasion of World No Tobacco Day, District Police Kishtwar conducted crackdown throughout the district against tobacco product sellers. The raiding parties were headed by DySP Headquarters Kishtwar Nihar Ranjan and SHO Police Station Kishtwar Inspector Sameer Jallani in Kishtwar town. During raids, Rs 6000 fine was made to various shopkeepers selling the tobacco products near educational institutes and seized large quantity of cigarettes and other tobacco products under section 12 and 13 of COTPA, In Chhatroo, police teams from Police Station Chhatroo and Police Post Mughalmaidan seized tobacco products and a hefty amount of fine was imposed on the shopkeepers. Similarly the raids were also conducted in the Jawalapur, Dhrabshala, Marwah and Dachan and other areas of the district.
