LEH, June 2: MP Ladakh Thupstan Chewang laid the foundation stone for double lane road from Choglamsar to Hemis Phase-I at an estimated cost of Rs. 1989.43 lakh including motorable steel grider bridge of 60 mtr span at an estimated cost of Rs. 775.00 lakh funded under Central Road Fund (CRF) today at Choglamsar-Chuchot bridge.
CEC LAHDC Dorjey Mutup, Executive Councilors, DC Leh Avny Lavasa, MLA Leh Rigzin Jora, Councilors, SE PWD, Ex-en Construction Division, ACD Leh, Nambarders and villagers of Choglamsar, Chuchot, Stok, Hemis and Matho were present on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering Thupstan Chewang said that upgradation of Choglamsar-Chuchot bridge was much deserved by the public, specially people living on the other bank of Indus.
Making mention of new schemes under CRF, Thupstan Chewang informed about taking 2 bridges and road till Kharu in two phases. He said that roads are mandatory to bring in development but with it has repercussions like heavy traffic causing environmental damages. So he urged upon the people to take equal care of environment along with developmental facilities.
Mentioning about the new bridge to be constructed replacing the existing Choglamsar-Chuchot bridge, CEC said that the fabrication work of the brigde has already started in Jammu. He informed that by October as the water level of Indus will reduce the de-launching of the bridge will start by April next year the bridge work will get completed. He urged upon the people to cooperate with the executing agency when the work starts and try to take alternative roads to avoid disturbance in the timely completion of the bridge.
CEC also gave assurance to improve lighting, drinking water and toilet facility in Choglamsar-Chuchot area responding to a memorandum submitted by Merchant Association, Choglamsar on the occasion.
Rigzin Jora speaking on the occasion asserted the need for development to make lives of people comfortable and convenient. He stressed to avoid time and cost over-on by ensuring timely completion of the bridge on stipulated time.
