Taj appears before SAC

JAMMU, Dec 17: Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Taj Mohi-ud-Din today appeared in person before the State Accountability Commission (SAC) and explained his position in response to the Commission’s notice issued on December 8.
The SAC comprising Chairperson Justice (retd) Y P Nargotra and Justice (retd) Hakim Imtiyaz Hussain had on December 8, 2012, issued notice to the Minister to show cause as to why contempt proceedings may not be initiated against him for claiming in a statement that Accountability Commission in September 2005 and Vigilance Organization, Kashmir in 2011 had conveyed to the Government that no forest land was grabbed by him in Sedhav forests in Shopian district of South Kashmir.
Accompanied by his counsel Advocate Shah Mohammad, the Minister gave a detailed reply to the Commission and submitted some documents in support of his stand. After hearing the arguments of the Minister and his counsel, the Accountability Commission reserved the decision till December 24, 2012.
It is pertinent to mention here that Mr Taj is the second sitting Minister, who has appeared in person before the Accountability Commission. Earlier, Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed, the then Minister for Rural Development (presently Minister for Public Enterprises), had appeared before the Commission in rural electrification scam.
