Srinagar, Dec 17: The much hyped Cabinet decision of creation of more than 1100 posts for Assistant Professors in the Higher Education Department has fallen flat as the posts are yet to be referred to the Public Service Commission despite the lapse of more than four months of the issuance of the order.
The Government had issued order No. 317-HE of 2012 dated 3-8-2012 according to which 1129 posts of Assistant Professors were created in various degree colleges of the State. The posts were created only after being cleared by the Cabinet and it was expected that the posts would be referred to the Public Service Commission but that has not happened so far.
Minister for Higher Education, Abdul Gani Malik told Excelsior that the delay in the referral of the posts is due to the technicalities raised by the Public Service Commission with respect to the posts already referred to the Commission for filling up. Malik said that as and when the process of selection of these posts is finalized the new posts would be referred to the Commission.
“The Public Service Commission had raised some queries with the department with regard to the posts already referred to them. We have given our answer to them and the finalization of the posts hopefully would be done quickly. Once the selection process is complete the posts created would be referred to the Commission,” said Malik.
Meanwhile, sources said that Public Service Commission has sought clarification on the legality of degrees obtained by candidates from the study centers affiliated to various outside universities while applying for the posts advertised by the Commission. They said the Commission has withheld the advertisement of the 1129 posts of Assistant Professors for selection until the Government does not respond to the queries raised by them.
It would be in place to mention here that the State Government has through a circular mentioning the names of institutions and universities whose degrees are valid in the State. The State Government, through its order number 252 of General Administrative Department (GAD) dated 30-5- 2012 has spelt out the validity of degrees awarded by various study centres of different open universities in the country.
A delegation of the candidates, who have completed their Post Graduate degree in various disciplines along with National Eligibility Test (NET), State Level Eligibility Test (SLET) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) here today said that the Higher Education Department is deliberately delaying the referral of the posts.
“The State Government headed by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was generous enough to create the posts of Assistant Professors in different degree colleges of the State. The Chief Minister should intervene in this matter so that the posts are referred to Public Service Commission and some of us get absorbed as Assistant Professors in the Higher Education Department,” said the candidates.
The candidates also appealed to Higher Education Minister, Abdul Gani Malik to set the matter right and scuttle the attempts aimed at ‘derailing’ the process of recruitment of 1129 Assistant Professors in the Higher Education Department.
