“We have decided to stop providing medical services in all the private hospital, diagnostic centres and labs etc on June 5 besides organizing a peaceful march from Bahu Plaza to Green Belt Park on the same day,” said Dr Satyadev Gupta in the press conference.
He lamented that they were compelled to undertake such protests as doctors have been scolded by politicians, Police and other authorities on many occasion.
Expressing grief over the recent death of a patient during a minor surgery by Dr Satish Mehta and his team, the Forum said that the incident was unfortunate and the whole community of doctors was sympathetic to bereaved family. “We remain always sympathetic to patients who we are treating. Sometimes some unforeseen bad incidents do happen where in spite of all our positive efforts, morbidity and mortality occurs,” they said and explained that the recent incident of death happened because of anaphylactic reaction of some drug, probably Propofal.
“Other anasthetistics Dr Atul Sharma and Dr Rohit Gupta were immediately called to help Dr Rajesh Mahajan (anesthetist) and theatre team bit in spite of all the efforts put in by the team, we lost the patient,” Dr Satydev added.
Terming the action of Police and media persons as deplorable, the Forum members alleged that despite the Supreme Court ruling, the doctors and their team were arrested and kept in lock up for more than 72 hours.
This type of behaviour of the concerned authorities is highly condemnable. If such situations are in store for doctors, how treatment of the patients is possible?” they asked. Maintaining that such incidents may happen in future also in Medical practice, the Forum warned that if the treating doctors meet such type of pathetic behavious from the attendants and the authorities, no one will work in prestigious Medical profession.
