SRINAGAR, June 4: Minister for Power, Sunil Sharma today directed the officers to synergize their efforts to ensure the implementation of Kiru hydroelectric power project so that the power generation capacity of the State gets properly augmented.
The Minister was speaking at a review meeting convened to discuss the implementation on the 624 MW Kiru hydroelectric power project being implemented by the Chenab Valley Power Projects Limited (CVPPL).
Minister of State for Power, Asiea Naqash was also present.
Commissioner/Secretary PDD, Managing Director JKSPDC, Managing Director CVPPL, Development Commissioner Power and other senior officers attended the meeting.
While highlighting the tremendous potential of the State for harnessing the hydroelectric power, the Minister said that Jammu and Kashmir is replete with the vast sources of water bodies and now the onus lies on us to ensure that they are properly tapped so that the power deficit of the State is properly complemented.
He said that a comprehensive and perspective policy should be prepared which can ensure that these natural resources are properly harnessed and the people living in the State get benefited from these. Besides, it would also help in generation of the revenue for the State of Jammu and Kashmir, he added and maintained that we would be power surplus in near future.
The Minister also directed the officers to co-ordinate their efforts to ensure that the bottlenecks if any in the implementation are removed so that the work can be fast paced. He said that they should also come up with a comprehensive relief and rehabilitation program for the people whose properties would be acquired and they are provided with adequate compensation and also employed in the upcoming hydroelectric power project.
