Reserve 4 seats in Assembly for Sikhs : DKSC

JAMMU, June 4: Displaced Kashmir Sikh Conference (DKSC) has demanded reservation of four Assembly seats for Sikhs of the State.
Talking to reporters here, today the president of the Conference, Harmohinder Singh said that out of them two seats be reserved in Jammu province and two in Kashmir Valley so that the minority Sikhs can get the proper reservation in the Sate Assembly.
He said seven seats have been reserved in the Assembly for the SCs to protect the rights of weaker sections of the society.
Emphasizing the need for reservation for the community in four constituencies Harmohinder Singh said that in Kashmir the two constituencies be reserved in Sikh dominated areas of Baramulla and Tral while in Jammu in the two constituencies be reserved in RS Pura and Gandhi Nagar  respectively.
He said there are 3.25 lakh Sikhs in the entire State who are scattered in 87 constituencies  due to which they remain unrepresented in the State Assembly. He said in order to redress the problems and bring succor to the community the reservation of four seats in State Assembly has become mandatory for them.
He appealed the Government to consider the demand and promulgate an ordinance in this regard. Singh also appealed the coalition Government to bring a legislation in this regard and take concrete steps for granting reservation to Sikh community under J&K Representation of Peoples Act.
The Conference also strongly condemned the attacks on minority Sikhs in Shillong Capital City of Meghalaya State in North East. It demanded that the Government should put down the attackers with heavy hands. Alleging total failure of the law and order machinery in the State, Singh has appealed people to maintain peace.
Engineer Daljit Singh. K N Singh, Balbir Singh, Manjit Singh, Kirat Singh Sodhi, Suraj Singh, Mangat Singh Sadwani, Jaspal Singh , Davinder Kour and Harjeet Kour were among others in the press conference.
