Discusses overall situation with CM

SRINAGAR, June 4: Northern Army chief Lt General Ranbir Singh on his maiden visit today reviewed security situation in Kashmir and asked the troops deployed along the Line of Control (LoC) to remain alert. He also briefed the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti about overall situation in State.
The General also called upon Mehbooba and discussed the vital importance of an integrated approach by all the stakeholders in dealing with the prevailing security situation.
The Commander briefed the Chief Minister about security situation and the suspension of the operations during the holy month of Ramadhan.
Mehbooba told Lt General Singh to work in synergy with other security agencies and ensure maximum relief for people. She told him that the hope generated by the ceasefire among common masses is sustained and further carried forward.
The Chief Minister also discussed the border firing along the IB and LoC in Jammu and measures taken for the safety and security of the people living in these areas.
He assured the Chief Minister that Army will provide all assistance to the administration wherever need arises.
Just a couple of days after taking over the reins of the Udhampur based Northern Command, Lt General Singh arrived in Srinagar today and reviewed the overall security scenario in the Valley.
During the visit, the Army Commander was briefed by the Chinar Corps Commander, Lt General AK Bhatt, at Badami Bagh Cantonment on the overall security situation and major operational, logistical and administrative aspects pertaining to the Corps.
They also visited the forward areas in the frontier district of Kupwara where the Army Commander was briefed by the Commanders on ground as regards the operational preparedness. He was given detailed account of the situation along the LoC and was told that large numbers of militants are waiting across on the launch pads for infiltration.
The Commanders at the ground level briefed him about the mechanism that is in place along the LoC to foil infiltration bids. He was told that troops are leaving no stone unturned to ensure that the infiltrators are either neutralized on the LoC or in the forest area adjacent to it. He was told that troops have closed all the exit roots of the forests that lead to hinterland so that any infiltrated group is not allowed to come out of the forests.
During his interaction with the troops, Lt Gen Ranbir Singh lauded their professionalism, sharp vigil along the LoC and high morale and exhorted them to remain alert for any eventuality.
He also interacted with various officials from the Government and civil administration and appreciated the synergy being maintained through the joint efforts of all the agencies which he said was the most critical aspect of successful counter terrorist operations.
Lt Gen Ranbir Singh who assumed the charge of Northern Army Commander on June 1, extended his greetings to the people of Kashmir on the holy month of Ramadhan and reiterated the Army’s commitment to their wellbeing at all times.
