JAMMU, Dec 18: Rich tributes were paid to freedom fighter, veteran KP leader and a great social reformer Kashyap Bandhu on his 27th death anniversary at a function organised here today.
The speakers on the occasion recalled the contribution of this great leader towards the upliftment of the community when the Pandits were passing through a very lean phase in the social as well as political march way back during 1931 –1948.
They also recalled the positive aspect of Bandhuji’s leadership role in galvanizing the community’s political aspirations and emancipation of Kashmiri Pandit women. The change in the dress of Pandit ladies, re-marriage of widows, educating the girl child and her shoulder-to-shoulder participation in social progress was especially emphasized by women speakers.
They praised the contribution of this dynamic leader in giving voice to the feeling of the community through establishment of Martand. Describing him a towering personality they said Bhanduji was a secularist by core who worked for fostering of bonds between the different communities in the State.
Tributes to this great leader were also paid at Jammu Yatri Bhavan Haridwar in Utranchal where a Havan was performed for the peace of departed soul.
