PYC activists stage protest demonstration

JAMMU, Dec 18: Activists of Pradesh Youth Congress (PYC) held one-day protest demonstration, outside the office of  Divisional Commissioner at Rail Head Complex here today.
The Youth Congress leaders and workers were pressing for their demand to hold Block Development Council (BDC) elections in the State. Secretary, Indian Youth Congress and incharge J&K affairs Chetan Partap Singh was leading the protest while PYC president Shah Nawaz Choudhary, vice president Pranav Shagotra, PYC general secretaries Dr Rashid Choudhary, Abid Kashmiri, Jammu –Poonch Lok Sabha president Satish Sharma, Kathua-Udhampur-Doda Lok Sabha president Pankaj Basotra and Naseer Ahmed Mir from Anantnag LS constituency were also accompanying.
While addressing the PYC workers Shah Nawaz Choudhary warned the Coalition Government in the State to hold Block Development Council elections at the earliest after incorporating 73rd Amendment. He said the PYC will be compelled to launch Statewide agitation if the Government failed to act on the issue.  He said that Panchayati Raj system be strengthened at par with the other states in the country.
Mr Shagotra also addressed the gathering and criticized the Government for causing unnecessary delay in holding BDC and District bodies polls. He said that empowerment of Panchayat was must and the PYC was committed for it. He demanded that there should be provision of reservation for women, SCs, STs, OBCs  and OSCs before holding these polls.
Satish Sharma, Mr Basotra  and several other Youth Congress leaders also addressed the gathering.  A memorandum was also submitted to the Administration.
