JAMMU, June 11: Division Bench of State High Court comprising Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur and Justice Sanjay Kumar Gupta today issued certain directions in a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking directions to the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association for early start of work on international stadium at Bajalta soon after the release of already sanctioned amount of Rs 100 crore.
After hearing both the sides, the DB observed, “Senior Advocate Sunil Sethi appearing on behalf of BCCI submits that the land earmarked for construction of the international stadium at Jammu by the Government will be assessed for purposes of feasibility keeping in view the proximity of the land to the River Tawi”.
“He has further submitted that the final decision will be taken by an appropriate team, which is likely to be deputed by the BCCI in that regard”, the DB said, adding “a prayer has been made that when the team of the BCCI arrives in Jammu, the Deputy Commissioner Jammu be directed to depute some officer, which can identify the land in question”.
The DB directed that as and when the BCCI team wishes to visit the spot at Jammu, a communication shall be addressed by the competent authority or an officer authorized in that regard to the Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, who shall depute an officer of his choice, for purposes of only identifying the spot. “It will be open to the BCCI to associate JKCA, if they so desire”, the DB added.
